Usage Tips
- EClean can save you a lot of time but requires
a few small change in habits. To be effective EClean must be run prior
to, and within a short timeframe of, your downloading your E-mail
with your default client. (Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora,
Netscape Communicator, etcetera...) .... get into a habit of
running EClean and closing or minimizing it and then immediately
downloading your E-mail.
- When using the EClean software
that installs on your PC, tool tips are available on most features
of the software, just hover your cursor over the button to pop-up
the tool tip.
- A good first step would be to
remove the icon (if you start your E-mail client at boot-up) in
your startup folder that opens your e-mail client, then add the
icon for EClean so it starts instead.
- Another way to ensure that EClean
runs prior to your default E-mail client is to turn off your
client's setting to get new messages on startup, then turn off
your e-mail client's scheduling setting to automatically check
mail every so often. i.e. "download new mail every 10 minutes"
- The power of EClean is created by
the software's ability to "learn" and add to your trusted senders
without user intervention. It is important that you build your
whitelists of current contacts and clients as soon as possible,
start by importing all of the contacts in your E-mail client's
address book.
- Then, under EClean's options, turn
on trusted senders and check the box to automatically add valid
senders to the trusted senders list.
- So those corresponding with you
know what is going on... compile a list of anyone you think would
need to be sent an explanation email, then if you do not create
your own page to point them to, use the auto-generated awareness
page. (a link to this page was E-mailed to you when you encrypted
your address)
- Another way to stay off spammers lists;
... when you need to provide an E-mail address to receive
correspondences from a site you are not yet sure you can trust,
there is no better solution than to use
SpamMotel.com
to hide your real address from potential spammers.
- If you want to have a mailto: link send to
multiple (say three) addresses and protect them with EClean, have
your ISP create a transport box that forwards to several addresses
then add all three EClean codes to the subject line of the
message.
- If you want to have a form send to multiple
(say two) addresses and protect them with EClean, string the
addresses separated by a comma and add both EClean codes to the
generated subject line within the form properties or form action.
- When you first start using EClean
it is highly recommended that you monitor your messages prior to
cleaning the box for a month or two. The EClean software will
ignore valid messages and it will list the suspect spam messages
in the window... click "Check All", then scan over
them, unchecking any messages you think are business or personal
messages, click the subject text of the last message and scroll "a
whole page at a time" by clicking just above the bottom arrow.
- You can right click on the subject text of any
listed messages that may be legitimate and click "view message" to
preview it prior to downloading it.
- Whenever you see a valid message in the suspect
list right click on the subject text and click "add to trusted
senders" or "add to trusted Domains" .... whichever is more
appropriate.
- After enough time has passed
"using EClean" that you did not have to uncheck a legitimate
correspondence, it is time to "automatically delete the spam" ....
knowing new business from your Website will have the EClean code,
and anyone sending a valid message is added to your trusted
senders automatically.
- Finally, turn on the auto-run feature and have EClean
delete any spam you receive on a user-definable schedule. (timer
can be set for intervals between 10 minutes and 2 hours)
